When we think of document management and saving valuable information, we most often think of pressing topics such as legal and financial information. But what about those things that really mean something to us? Saving family treasures ranging from children’s artwork to genealogical information is imperative to preserving your family history.

Most often these items are kept stowed away in the home. While they may be temporarily safe, they are not protected from aging, flood, or loss. It’s smart to preserve the quality of this history by making digital copies. If the original versions are ever damaged, at least you haven’t completely lost a significant piece of your family’s history.
If you haven’t browsed your Filing Cabinet, we want to let you know how we’ve prepared your account for preserving your own family history. The Family section of your Filing Cabinet houses these tabs:

  • Letters
  • Photos
  • Genealogy
  • Keepsakes
  • Articles
  • Education
  • Religion
  • Wedding

If you have a category of information that does not fit into these predefined categories – no problem! Every tab is customizable. Simply rename a section you’re not using and you are ready to start. Be aware that very old documents should not be scanned via a sheet-fed scanner. Due to their brittle nature, this could damage the item. A flatbed scanner would work best in this situation.
