With the Flu season in full swing, more and more people are visiting their doctors for vaccinations and checkups. While you’re at the doctor’s office, be sure to make the most out of your time there by asking all the right questions and having your information on hand.

1. Be sure to bring your medical history – No matter if it is a new doctor or your physician for the past 15 years, having your personal health record (PHR) handy can help facilitate your appointment. That’s because your PHR should contain information of self-diagnosed illnesses and over-the-counter medications you have taken (which is information that your doctor normally won’t have).

2. Have your family medical history handy – Many illnesses and diseases are genetic. Knowing if your relatives had a certain disease can help your doctor detect any conditions that you may have (or be very susceptible to having).

3. Be sure to have your insurance cards – It’s quite difficult to check in at the doctor’s office without having your medical insurance card on hand. Be sure that it’s in your wallet, or that you have this information readily available. Better yet, store the information from your insurance card in your Orggit account, and you’ll simply have to access your Orggit iPhone app in the waiting room.

Going to the doctor is rarely all that pleasant of an experience. But, by having your information at hand and knowing the facts about your medical history, you’ll be prepared for any doctor appointment.
