Taxes are difficult enough to handle — even before the worry of a potential audit. The single best thing you can do to prepare for tax season is to get, and stay, organized. Luckily, Orggit is the perfect place to handle this, and with just a few quick steps you can be on your way to a more organized life.

First, you need to save everything that you may need in case of an audit. A good thing to begin with is your W2. It is a statement of all income and benefits you’ve received in the past year. Next, gather and any important receipts that you may need in case of an audit. These are often items that you will be using for your deductions. Finally, make sure you have any other important pieces of documentation that you think you may need, just in case.

The next step is getting this information in recognizable order. We think it’s best to sort the materials by general category. Some good categories are: General Taxes, Medical, Charitable, Dental, and Interest. Once you’ve sorted them, it’s time to scan. We suggest scanning the documents in using a similar order as how you initially organized the hard copies.

Now that they are scanned, log-in to Orggit and navigate to the Taxes section of the Filing Cabinet. Create a folder for your 2009 taxes and create some sub-folders — they should be just like the ones you scanned your documents into. Now upload the documents folder by folder until you have everything in Orggit. We certainly hope you aren’t audited, but you will be prepared by using Orggit.
