The holidays are almost upon us, and no matter if you’re celebrating at your house or a relative’s, being organized will make the whole season go smoothly. Here are some tips on how to prepare.
1. Create a Holiday Events Calendar
With the holiday season comes a flood of invitations to holiday parties, recitals and gift exchanges. To help keep track of these events, create a holiday events calendar, electronic document, or incorporate them into your own family calendar. Place the calendar in a central location, so the whole family can plan accordingly.
2. Create a Gift List and Corresponding Budget
When buying gifts for family and friends, it’s easy for holiday spending to get out of control. Before hitting the malls this season, take time to set an overall gift budget and allocate how much you can spend on each recipient. Stick to this budget when brainstorming gift ideas for family, friends, children’s teachers and charitable giving. By uploading this gift list and budget to your Orggit account, as well as any gift receipts you acquire (in order to archive records), you can be sure that you won’t lose track in the hustle and bustle!
3. Clear Clutter in Extra Bedrooms
The holiday season usually means entertaining guests, including an overnight guest or two. If so, you’ll need to clear the clutter in the guest bedroom in your home (which many times doubles as an office or storage closet). If there are important files stored away in these areas, use this time to ensure the safety of these documents by scanning and uploading the digital versions into your Orggit account. Non-essential documents can then be shred and thrown away.
4. Donate Clothing and Old Toys
When clearing out extra bedrooms, you will most likely accumulate old clothing, toys and other household items that you no longer have use for (hence why they are wasting away in an unused room). This is the perfect time of year to donate these items. On one hand, you are clearing the clutter in your life while making room for new gifts, on the other hand, you are providing gifts for those in need.
5. Set Goals for the New year
In order for your organized lifestyle to carry over into the New Year, set a goal for yourself and your family. New Year’s resolutions are notoriously difficult to keep up with, so don’t bite off more than you can chew. Choose one specific goal that will be easy to implement into your life--maybe next year, you'll want to get organized.
