Death is a morbid and often uncomfortable topic of conversation. We usually avoid thoughts and discussions regarding our mortality; however, end of life preparations are an essential part of family planning.
Although it’s a difficult process to go through, planning for the case of your own death (or the death of a loved one) can be a very healthy exercise. Through this process we ensure that all our affairs are in order so our family will not have to deal with added stress during a time of grieving. This experience also allows for time to reflect on the most important things in life, preventing us from taking our loved ones for granted. Below are a few examples of things you should consider sharing with your family:
- What kind of ceremony or memorial do you want in your honor? Do your next of kin know about your wishes?
- Do you have a will or living trust? Does your family know where the document is located?
- Do you own a life insurance policy, retirement account, or pension? Do your beneficiaries know where this information is stored?
- Do you have any bank accounts? Can your family access this information?
- Do you have stocks, bonds, or mutual funds? Where is this information stored?
There is so much personal information that we neglect to share with our family members – anything from financial accounts to online passwords. These things often go unnoticed until it is too late. Granting your family access to this information (or notifying them of its whereabouts) will make the transition much smoother. Storing your important information in Orggit will grant your family members peace of mind knowing that all of your information is in place, just as you wished.
