Do you remember your New Year’s Resolution? Most people fail to follow through after committing to a resolution on New Year’s Day. However, if your resolution had anything to do with getting organized, we can get you back on track in a matter of minutes! With the first day of spring right around the corner, it’s a great time to begin spring cleaning.
New Year’s Resolutions are notoriously hard to keep, especially if you’ve chosen a non-specific goal. The key to adhering to the challenge is to choose specific actions. So if you’ve chosen to be more organized in 2010, what exactly do you mean? Here is an example of breaking down a general goal into specific actions. Generally, you wish to be more organized when it comes to banking and balancing your checking account. To make this goal more measurable, follow these steps:
- Create a folder in the Orggit Filing Cabinet under the Banking tab for 2010 Receipts.
- Set up a scanner and a file inbox on your desk.
- Save all receipts and bank statements and place them in the inbox.
- Set a reminder on your calendar for this task (choose a time interval that works best for you: once a month or once every two weeks, for example).
- Use the receipts to balance your checkbook, and then scan and upload them to your Orggit account.
Each step of this process is a measurable action. If you have other areas of your life that you wish to get organized, simply follow this process to develop the specific steps of that particular action. And most importantly, don’t bite off more than you can chew! If you spread yourself too thin on new tasks, you will likely fail to integrate these new behaviors into your lifestyle.
