Are you traveling abroad this summer? If you are applying for a first-time passport or simply renewing an expired one, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to receive it in the mail – otherwise, your trip may be jeopardized! During busy travel seasons, such as summer, it is recommended that you pay to expedite your passport if you are traveling in less than 10 weeks.
If you are applying for the first time, you must do so in person. Remember that you will need evidence of US citizenship as well as a form of personal identification and two passport photos. Visit the US Department of State website for guidelines of what forms are acceptable. You can also find the passport application here. As for the passport photographs, these can be taken many places such as your local pharmacy. If you are renewing a passport, you can easily apply through the mail by sending in your old passport; however, there are some restrictions, so check the site before starting this process.
Before you travel, be sure you scan a copy of your new passport into your Orggit account. In the past, it was recommended that you photocopy your important travel documents and identification and bring the paper back-ups abroad with you. With Orggit, you can store these digital back-ups and access them no matter where you are in the world, meaning there is no need to pack all the extra paper in your suitcase.
